Shapewear by dress type. Every page gives a verdict first, then the fit rule, then the size. Some say no; those are the pages that make the rest believable.
Shapewear for a backless dressNo. A truly backless dress shows the NULAYER bodysuit's straps and back. We do not have a backless version yet. For a dress that is low-back rather than backless, read the second section before deciding.
Shapewear for a bodycon dressYes. Wear the thong cut, Black under a dark dress and Beige under a light one, straps set for your torso. A bodycon dress shows every edge, so the bonded edges and the thong back matter more than compression.
Shapewear for a halter dressNo. A halter leaves the shoulders and upper back bare, and the NULAYER bodysuit has shoulder straps; they would show. We do not make a halter or convertible version yet. Wear a strapless bra with a smoothing brief or short.
Shapewear for a jumpsuitYes, under a jumpsuit with sleeves or wide straps. Thong under a fitted leg, mid-thigh under a wide leg. One honest note: a jumpsuit comes down at the shoulders for the bathroom; the bodysuit then stays put.
Shapewear for a knit or sweater dressYes. A knit shows every line and every edge, so the bodysuit's job is flat edges and a thong back. Wear the thong in Black under a dark knit, Beige under cream, straps set so nothing prints at the shoulder.
Shapewear for a mini dressYes, thong only. A mini hem sits above where the mid-thigh leg ends, so the mid-thigh would show; the thong ends at the hip. Black under dark minis, Beige under white, straps set at home.
Shapewear for a one-shoulder dressNo. A one-shoulder dress bares one shoulder completely, and the NULAYER bodysuit has two straps; the strap on the bare side would show. We do not make a one-strap version. Wear a strapless bra and a smoothing brief.
Shapewear for a satin slip dressYes. Wear the thong cut in the shade closest to your skin, straps set for your torso length. Satin shows every seam and line, so the bonded edges and the thong back are what make this work, not compression.
Shapewear for a sequin dressYes. Wear the thong cut, Black under most sequin dresses, straps set for your torso. Most sequin dresses are lined and heavier than satin, so they hide more; the bodysuit's job is the waist line and no panty line.
Shapewear for a sheath or pencil dressYes. A sheath is cut close from shoulder to knee, so the back and the waist show first. Wear the thong, straps set for the neckline, in the shade of the dress's lining. Mid-thigh only under a lined wool sheath.
Shapewear for a strapless dressNo. The NULAYER bodysuit has shoulder straps, and under a strapless dress they show. Do not tuck them. We do not make a strapless or convertible version yet. Wear a strapless bra with a high-waisted smoothing brief or short instead.
Shapewear for a velvet dressYes. Velvet has pile and weight, so it hides small edges but prints a pressed waistband as a ridge. Wear the thong in Black; the bonded edges leave nothing to press. Set the straps for the neckline.
Shapewear for a wrap dressYes. Either cut works. Set the straps so the bodysuit's deep V sits lower than the wrap's V; the waist tie then lands over the smoothed panel. The mid-thigh works here because the skirt falls loose from the hip.
Shapewear under a white or ivory dressYes, with one adjustment: Beige, never Black. Our Beige is a light beige, so under a very sheer white dress check it in daylight first. Thong under a clinging white dress; mid-thigh only under a loose skirt.
