No. A truly backless dress shows the NULAYER bodysuit's straps and back. We do not have a backless version yet. For a dress that is low-back rather than backless, read the second section before deciding.

Why we say no

The bodysuit's smoothing comes from a full front and back panel held up by two adjustable shoulder straps. A backless dress exposes exactly that: the straps, the top edge of the back panel, and the built-in bra's band line. There is no way to wear it under a dress cut below the mid-back without it showing.

We would rather say that plainly than sell you one you return. A backless or convertible-strap version is on our list; until it exists, this page stays a no.

Low back is a different question

Many dresses described as backless are really low-back: the fabric returns around the bra band or a little below it. Under those, the bodysuit is fine. Set the straps to their normal length for your torso, put the dress on over it, and check the mirror from behind. If the dress covers the top edge of the back panel, nothing shows, and you get the smoothing through the waist and the deep V that disappears under a low front.

The mirror test is the rule, not the dress's label. Do it at home the week before, with the shoes on, because a dress sits lower when you stand tall in heels.

What to wear under a truly backless dress

A high-waisted smoothing brief or mid-thigh short gives the waist and hip line without anything above the waist. Adhesive cups or a stick-on bra cover the bust. Fashion tape holds the dress's back edge flat. This is the standard answer across the category, and it is the honest one from us too.

Which size: Not applicable for a backless dress. For a low-back dress that passes the mirror test, size by bust and waist from the chart.

Questions people ask

Can I just lower the straps for a backless dress?

No. Lowering the straps drops the front and the bust support with them, and the back panel's top edge still shows. The garment is designed to be worn with the straps on the shoulders.

Does NULAYER make a low-back or strapless bodysuit?

Not today. Both are on our list. The current thong and mid-thigh cuts have shoulder straps and a full back.

What about a deep V front with a low back?

The deep V front is fine under a low front. The back is the limit: if the dress covers the bra band line, wear it; if not, do not.
