NULAYER › Occasions › Shapewear for an office party
Yes, wear itAn office party is the one occasion where the shapewear goes on at seven in the morning and comes off after midnight. In between there is a chair, a lunch, meetings, a work bathroom, and then a room with music. A garment that is built for maximum compression is a mistake for that day; a garment you forget about is the point.
The NULAYER bodysuit is medium-firm, so it smooths the midsection and waist and is comfortable to sit and eat in, which covers the desk, the lunch and the buffet. The hook-and-eye crotch closure matters more at work than anywhere: a bathroom stall between meetings is no place to take a bodysuit down to the knees, and with this one you do not.
Most people wear the same thing to the party that they wore to the meeting, with a lipstick change in the bathroom. A sheath or pencil dress wants the thong: the seat and the waist are what a fitted dress shows, and the thong back leaves no line when you walk to the front of the room. Trousers or a wide skirt want the mid-thigh, which smooths the upper thigh where trousers pull across it when you sit.
Office necklines help. A crew, boat or square neck covers the bodysuit's deep V with room to spare, so the straps only need to be set for your torso. The built-in bra has no compression on the bust, and under a work blouse most people keep their own bra on, its straps inside the bodysuit's.
Offices are lit for reading, which is brighter than a restaurant, and bright light shows a dark shape through a white or cream blouse. Under white, pale pink or cream, wear Beige; under a black dress or navy trousers, Black. If the blouse is sheer, check it in daylight before the day, because our Beige is a light beige and a very sheer white can shadow anything.
Machine wash cold and hang dry after the party, and hook the crotch closure before it goes in the machine so the hooks do not catch on the mesh. By the next workday it is dry.
Which size: Size by bust and waist. A full day of sitting followed by a party is the case for the larger band if you are between sizes.
| Band | US | Bust (in) | Waist (in) |
|---|---|---|---|
| XXS–XS | 0–2 | 30–33.5 | 23–26 |
| S–M | 4–10 | 34–38.5 | 26.5–31 |
| L–XL | 12–14 | 39–41 | 31.5–34.5 |
| 2XL–3XL | 16–20 | 41.5–48 | 35–41.5 |
True to size for most wearers.
Between sizes: the smaller band for maximum smoothing, the larger for all-evening comfort.
Not this one. It is medium-firm, not maximum compression, and it is built to be comfortable to sit and eat in. The office day is the sit test the party does not give you.
Mid-thigh. It smooths the upper thigh where trousers pull when you sit, and the leg hem is hidden well above where wide trousers flare. The thong is for a fitted dress or skirt.
Under sleeves or a wide-shouldered blouse, no. Under a sleeveless top with thin straps, both the bodysuit's straps and your bra's would show, so save that top for another day.
