The one rule

Look at where the dress touches you below the hip. If it clings there, the thong: its only edges are at the waist and the leg opening, and the leg opening sits where underwear sits, so nothing prints. If the dress falls away from the hip, or you are wearing trousers, the mid-thigh: its leg hems sit at mid-thigh under fabric that does not cling, and it smooths the top of the thigh and stops thighs rubbing.

Does the mid-thigh show a line under a bodycon dress?

It can, at the leg hem, if the dress clings at mid-thigh. Under a bodycon, wear the thong. Under a dress that falls loose from the hip, the mid-thigh is fine.

Is the thong comfortable for a whole evening?

The back is a thong; the front panel, waist and bra are the same as the mid-thigh. If you wear thongs normally, yes. If you never do, the mid-thigh is the safer first buy.

Do both cuts open at the crotch?
